Style mistakes to avoid when wearing a suit
A suit instantly elevates your look—if you wear it the right way. Discover the most common suit styling mistakes and how to avoid them with ease.

Trousers that are too long

No matter how sharply you're dressed in your smart suit and ironed shirt, when your trousers fall over your laces, you completely miss the mark. The trousers get dents and look messy. Only at the instep may there possibly be a small ripple visible. Often a lack of attention, or rather of fashion knowledge, is the cause of this blunder. Your height also has little to do with it. In short: whatever the reason, no excuse is good enough. So just don't do it!

How to style chunky shoes with your sharp outfit

Shoes are of great importance with every outfit. There's nothing more annoying than a well-dressed man with ugly, worn-out and clunky shoes. The boat shoe or a rugged boot for under your jeans is therefore not exactly a match with your formal outfit. Instead, rather go for something stylish like a smart loafer or stylish ankle boot, and give your shoes the attention they deserve too, so keep them neat. Polish them well and use shoe trees to keep them in shape.

Button open, button closed

Watch out! Rule of thumb: top button always closed when the attention is on you. So for example when you're going to give a speech, welcome your guests or walk into somewhere for the first time. Bottom button always open.

Wearing a belt and shoes in different colours

Here there's one simple rule: wear the same colour men's belt as your men's shoes. That way you're always fine. Should you nevertheless want to deviate from this rule, then you're playing with fire. With black and navy-coloured suits, you can still coordinate your belt with your suit. With other colours, no way. In addition, pay attention not only to the colour, but also to the material and finish of the belt. That way you can be sure your outfit is right!

A poor fit

The trend of loose-fitting, oversized suits with well-padded shoulders we're leaving very far behind us. If you still believe in this, no one is going to give you the benefit of the doubt. With a tailored suit that suits your figure, you stand out in a good way. And this is what we like to see.

Wear your shirt collar over your jacket

Unless you're Tony Montana or you've got an 80s theme party, this is a real fashion sin. Wearing your collar over your jacket can ruin your stylish outfit in one fell swoop. By wearing the collar inside your jackets instead, you get a slim look. Clean and simple, exactly how we like to see it with suits.

Over-accessorising

Accessories are a must for finishing off your outfit, but of course you can also overdo it. With too much bling on, your look isn't exactly classy and stylish. A tie clip, cufflinks and a nice watch are enough to neatly finish off your formal clothing. Are you going for the trendy look? Then a nice, masculine bracelet is also stylish; you can nicely coordinate it in colour with your other accessories. Watch out! What applies to make-up for women applies to accessories for men: less is more!
